beafordtouring
Village Voice is Beaford Arts’ touring scheme, which arranges affordable performances by professional artists in rural venues such as village halls, community centres, schools and churches.
A volunteer local promoter chooses from a catalogue of music, theatre or dance - in fact any form of performance that will interest their community, and Beaford Arts arranges the performance. Box office takings are shared, so a percentage of all ticket sales goes back to benefit the local venue. Promoters will often run a bar or arrange a shared meal to go with a show and Artists will, on occasion, teach workshops or work in local schools.
This work provides a vital service to rural communities, especially those members without access to transport or the funds for more expensive tickets for urban theatres. It also showcases the work of artists who fit better into smaller more intimate venues. Village Voice is a member of the National Rural Touring Forum (NRTF), which promotes the benefits of rurally-based arts throughout England and Wales.
